SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) in Florida

On May 6, 2025, at 9:17 p.m. ET, SpaceX successfully launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, deploying 28 Starlink V2 Mini satellites into low-Earth orbit as part of the Starlink 6-93 mission, further expanding the constellation to over 7,300 satellites serving high-speed internet to millions across 125 countries.

This mission, the 470th launch of the Falcon 9, showcased the seventh journey of the first stage booster B1085, a veteran of varied and ambitious endeavors.

This steadfast booster, B1085, had previously driven an array of ambitious missions, including NASA’s Crew-9, ferrying astronauts to the International Space Station, and Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lunar lander, charting a course for the Moon.

It powered the privately funded Fram2 mission to a rare polar orbit, led the Rapid Return to Launch 1 (RRT-1) test to revolutionize quick launch cycles, and drove two earlier Starlink flights, expanding SpaceX’s global internet constellation.

About eight minutes after liftoff, B1085 nailed a perfect landing on the droneship Just Read the Instructions, marking SpaceX’s 441st booster recovery and the 118th touchdown on this ship, showcasing their unparalleled expertise in reusable rockets.

The launch was bolstered by promising weather, boasting an 85% likelihood of clear skies despite slight worries about scattered clouds, paving the way for SpaceX’s 52nd Falcon 9 mission of 2025.

This success aligned with their relentless rhythm of 12–13 launches per month, fueling their bold goal of achieving 170 orbital missions by the close of the year, a vision that could be realized through a proposed expansion of SLC-40’s annual launch capacity from 50 to an impressive 120.

Broadcast live on X, this mission highlighted SpaceX’s operational efficiency, technological innovation, and commitment to global connectivity through the Starlink network.
