Elon Musk says he will launch rival to Microsoft-backed ChatGPT

According to Reuters: Billionaire Elon Musk said Monday that he would launch an artificial intelligence platform he calls “TruthGPT” to challenge offerings from Microsoft and Google.

He criticized Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the company behind chatbot sensation ChatGPT, for training AI to lie, and said OpenAI is now a closed source, for-profit organization closely affiliated with Microsoft.

He also accused Google co-founder Larry Page of not taking AI security seriously.

In an interview with Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson that aired Monday, Musk said, I’m going to introduce something I call ‘TruthGPT’ or a maximum truth-seeking AI that will try to understand the nature of the universe.

He states that TruthGPT may be the best form of protection that humans would be unlikely to destroy. It’s starting late now. But I will try to make a third option, said Elon Musk.

Elon Musk, OpenAI, Microsoft and Page did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Elon Musk Alphabet Inc (GOOGL.O) is poaching AI researchers from Google to launch a startup to rival OpenAI, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Elon Musk registered a firm named X.AI Corp incorporated in Nevada last month, according to state filings. The firm lists Musk as sole director and Jared Birchell, managing director of Musk’s family office, as secretary.

The move comes after Musk and a group of artificial intelligence experts and industry executives called for a six-month pause in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI’s newly launched GPT-4, citing potential risks to society. .

Elon Musk also reiterated his warnings about AI during the interview with Carlson, stating that AI is more dangerous than bad aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production.

He said that it has the potential to destroy civilization. He said, for example, that a super intelligent AI could write incredibly well and potentially manipulate public opinion.

He tweeted over the weekend that he had met with former US President Barack Obama when he was president and told him that Washington needed to encourage AI regulation.

Elon Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but he stepped down from the company’s board in 2018. In 2019, he tweeted that he left OpenAI because he wanted to focus on Tesla and SpaceX.

He also tweeted at the time that there were other reasons for his departure from OpenAI, Tesla was competing for something like OpenAI and I didn’t agree with what the OpenAI team wanted to do.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has also become the CEO of Twitter, a social media platform he bought last year for $44 billion. In an interview with Fox News, Musk said that he values Twitter at less than half the price of its recent acquisition.

In January, Microsoft Corp announced another multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI, intensifying competition with rival Google and fueling the race to attract AI funding in Silicon Valley.

”Billionaire Elon Musk said he will launch an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that he calls “TruthGPT,” in an apparent challenge to ChatGPT, the popular chatbot from OpenAI.”
