President Donald Trump made a controversial statement about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin at the White House on March 11, 2025, saying, “Schumer, to me, is a Palestinian; he used to be Jewish, but now he’s become a Palestinian.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has targeted Schumer with such remarks; previously, in February 2025 on Truth Social and during a rally in August 2024, he referred to Schumer as a “Palestinian” or “proud member of Hamas” to attack him.
Schumer, a Jewish-American and the highest-ranking Jewish leader in Congress, has consistently demonstrated loyalty to the Jewish community and Israel, though in recent years he has criticized the Netanyahu government in Israel, a stance Trump has weaponized against him.
Trump’s remark was likely a political jab, using the term “Palestinian” as an insult to portray Democrats as anti-Israel. The statement has sparked debate in the U.S., with some viewing it as part of Trump’s divisive rhetoric, while others label it as racist and antisemitic.
On X, users have shown mixed reactions, some found it absurd, while others condemned it.
