CNN: On April 5, 2025, more than 1,200 “Hands Off!” protests took place across all 50 states in the United States, targeting Donald Trump and Elon Musk. These demonstrations were organized in response to the Trump administration’s implementation of Project 2025, with protesters expressing concerns over policies affecting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the Department of Education.
Major cities such as Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and Providence witnessed large-scale protests. Demonstrators believed that the policies of Trump and Musk, particularly Musk’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), which involved cuts to government spending and federal jobs, were undermining social security and democracy.
Over 150 civil rights organizations, labor unions, and other groups participated in what is considered the largest single-day protest to date.
In Washington, D.C., more than 20,000 people were expected to gather at the National Mall, reflecting public outrage over government layoffs, immigration policies, and the impact on human rights.
