Starlink, operated by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has launched high-speed internet in Oman

On March 27, 2025, Starlink, operated by Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, launched its high-speed internet service in Oman. With this development, Oman joins a select group of Middle Eastern countries, such as Yemen and Qatar, that are now benefiting from Starlink’s satellite-based broadband technology.

According to The National news, Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) granted Starlink Muscat a Class 1 license under Royal Decree No. 42/2023. Following this approval, Starlink began offering its services in Oman on March 27.

Elon Musk confirmed this milestone with a post on X, stating, “Starlink is now available in Oman.” This step represents a significant effort to strengthen Oman’s digital infrastructure, particularly in rural and remote areas.

Starlink’s technology has the potential to transform internet connectivity in Oman. It delivers speeds of up to 100 Mbps, even in regions where traditional fiber or cable networks are unavailable. Utilizing a constellation of approximately 6,000 low-Earth orbit satellites, Starlink provides direct internet access to users through a small satellite dish and router.

Its low-latency feature enhances experiences like video streaming, online gaming, and remote work, making them smoother and more efficient. This could also benefit key Omani industries such as oil and gas, mining, and tourism.

Starlink is expected to bridge the digital divide between Oman’s urban and rural areas. It will increase competition among local telecom providers, potentially improving service quality. SpaceX’s mission is to enhance global connectivity, and the launch of this service in Oman is a part of that vision. Within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Oman could become the first country to fully adopt this technology, paving the way for others like Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Although Starlink is now available in Oman, some areas may face waitlists due to capacity limitations. Interested users can visit the Starlink website (starlink.com) to check availability in their region and place an order for the service.

This requires purchasing a kit that includes a satellite dish and router, along with a monthly subscription fee. Pricing details for Oman have not yet been disclosed, but they are likely to align with Starlink’s global pricing structure.
