On July 1, 2025, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket launched the EUMETSAT MTG-S1 satellite, carrying the Copernicus Sentinel-4 instrument, into geosynchronous transfer orbit from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
This mission, the booster’s ninth flight, aims to transform weather forecasting and atmospheric monitoring across Europe and northern Africa.
Equipped with an advanced hyperspectral infrared sounder, MTG-S1 will provide high-frequency data on temperature, humidity, and trace gases every 30–60 minutes, improving storm prediction and air quality analysis.
Following a successful launch and booster landing on the Just Read the Instructions droneship, the satellite is now in its early operations phase, progressing toward its geostationary orbit to support critical climate and weather monitoring beyond 2040.
