SpaceX is set to launch its Falcon 9 rocket on July 22, 2025, carrying the ninth and tenth satellites of SES’s O3b mPOWER constellation into medium Earth orbit (MEO).
The mission will lift off from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, with a two-hour launch window opening at 5:12 p.m. ET.
This mission marks a significant step in expanding SES’s next-generation broadband constellation, designed to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet to millions in remote regions worldwide.
The O3b mPOWER satellites, built by Boeing, are part of an 11-satellite network orbiting approximately 8,000 km (5,000 miles) above Earth, capable of providing up to 10 Gbps of throughput per satellite.
The Falcon 9’s first stage booster, B1090, will be on its sixth flight, having previously supported NASA’s Crew-10, Bandwagon-3, two Starlink missions, and the O3b mPOWER 7 and 8 mission. Following stage separation, the booster is expected to land on the Just Read the Instructions droneship in the Atlantic Ocean, showcasing SpaceX’s reusable rocket technology.
A live webcast of the launch will begin 15 minutes prior to liftoff, available on SpaceX’s website, X (@SpaceX), and the X TV app. Weather conditions, often unpredictable in Florida’s summer, will be closely monitored, with showers and thunderstorms common this time of year.
SES’s O3b mPOWER constellation, operational since April 2024, has already connected over 15 million end users, serving clients like Carnival Corporation and Orange. This launch follows SES’s recent $3.1 billion acquisition of Intelsat, strengthening its position in global satellite communications.
