NASA has announced that it has awarded SpaceX, based in Starbase, Texas, a modification to its NASA Launch Services (NLS) II contract, adding Starship to its existing Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch service offerings.
The NLS II contracts provide a broad range of commercial launch services for NASA’s planetary, Earth-observing, exploration, and scientific satellites, featuring full NASA technical oversight and mission assurance to ensure the highest probability of launch success.
These contracts are multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity agreements, with an ordering period extending through June 2030 and an overall performance period through December 2032, and they include an on-ramp provision that offers new launch service providers the opportunity to join annually.
The contracts support the objectives of NASA’s Science Mission, Space Operations, Exploration Systems, and Space Technology Mission Directorates, and NASA can also provide launch services to other federal government agencies under these agreements, which are managed by the Launch Services Program Office at Kennedy Space Center.
