NASA astronaut Jonny Kim will launch aboard the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) on April 8, 2025, alongside cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky, joining the Expedition 72/73 crew to advance scientific research.
The trio will lift off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 1:47 a.m. EDT (10:47 a.m. Baikonur time), following a swift two-orbit, three-hour journey to dock with the ISS’s Prichal module at approximately 5:03 a.m. EDT.
Once aboard, they will collaborate with NASA astronauts Nichole Ayers, Anne McClain, and Don Pettit, JAXA astronaut Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonauts Alexey Ovchinin, Kirill Peskov, and Ivan Vagner for an eight-month mission, returning in December 2025.
This marks Kim and Zubritsky’s first spaceflight, while Ryzhikov embarks on his third, contributing to over two decades of continuous human presence on the ISS, a vital platform for groundbreaking research and preparation for NASA’s Artemis lunar missions and future Mars exploration.
Live coverage of the launch, docking, and hatch opening will be available on NASA+, starting at 12:45 a.m. EDT.
