Elon Musk continues to influence political discussions in Europe, aligning himself with right-wing views and advocating for nationalist policies. His recent posts on X (formerly Twitter) have stirred controversy, especially his support for far-right parties and figures.
He shared a slogan invoking Trump’s “Make America Great Again,” but adapted it for Europe: “Make Europe Great Again.” Musk expressed concern over the perceived pessimism in Europe, warning that such attitudes could lead to the continent’s decline.
In his commentary, Musk endorsed Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, praising their stance on immigration and cultural preservation, claiming this was about safeguarding German identity rather than promoting xenophobia.
His remarks also extended to criticizing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, calling him “an incompetent fool” and suggesting he should resign.
Musk’s involvement in European politics extends beyond Germany. In the UK, he has voiced support for far-right figure Tommy Robinson, advocating for his release from prison and promoting a poll asking if America should “liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government.”
These actions have drawn significant backlash from European leaders, with German Chancellor Scholz and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemning Musk’s comments. Scholz dismissed Musk’s words as attention-seeking, while Starmer criticized those spreading misinformation.
Musk’s political interventions seem closely tied to his business interests in Europe, particularly the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin, which has faced local opposition. Critics suggest that Musk’s disruptions, both in business and politics, are motivated by frustration with bureaucracy and regulation.
